BOAT WASHING
Washing your boat is essential to prevent the spread of invasive aquatic species. Before and after each launch, it is important to inspect, clean, and dry your equipment. By adopting these best practices, everyone contributes to protecting water quality and the health of our lakes.
Boat Washing
Protecting our lakes begins even before launching. Washing your boat is an essential step to prevent the spread of invasive aquatic species and preserve the quality of our ecosystems.
Why wash your boat?
Plants, microscopic animals, and invasive organisms can attach themselves to the hull, trailer, or boating equipment. Invisible to the naked eye, they can survive for several days out of water and quickly contaminate a new body of water.
Moving to a different lake without cleaning your boat significantly increases the risk of spreading harmful species, which can disrupt the ecological balance and harm recreational activities.
A shared responsibility
Every user has a role to play. Whether you're a boater, fisherman, kayaker, or paddleboarder, adopting good washing practices is a simple but essential step.

Best Practices
Before arriving at the lake:

Inspect the boat, trailer, and equipment

Remove all visible plants, mud, and debris
-
Drain all water (livewells, bilge, engine, containers)
Before launching (ideally):
-
Clean with hot, pressurized water (≥ 60°C)
-
Otherwise, allow to dry completely for at least 5 days
