PROTECTION OF RIVERBANKS AND RIVERBANKS

Riverbanks and riparian zones constitute an essential transition zone between terrestrial and aquatic environments.

They play a fundamental role in protecting bodies of water by naturally filtering sediments, nutrients and contaminants before they reach aquatic environments.

Riparian vegetation also helps to stabilize riverbanks , reduce erosion and limit the effects of runoff and waves .

It provides a valuable habitat for many species and promotes local biodiversity.

The shade it provides also helps to maintain a water temperature favorable to aquatic life.

The protection and restoration of riparian zones relies on simple and responsible actions :

- to preserve the natural vegetation,

- reduce impermeable surfaces,

- limit the use of chemical products

- adopt environmentally friendly maintenance practices.

By preserving these fragile environments, each local resident actively contributes to water quality, ecosystem health and the sustainable protection of our lakes and waterways .
