LAKE HEALTH STATUS
According to data from the Control Lakes Project of the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change (MELCC) for the summer of 2024, Lake Achigan is in good general health.
Analyses show a low concentration of total phosphorus (approximately 4 µg/l), classifying the lake as oligotrophic . Oligotrophic lakes are characterized by a low presence of nutrients and limited biological productivity, which promotes clear, good-quality water .
The concentration of chlorophyll a (approximately 2.3 µg/l) also indicates an oligotrophic to oligo-mesotrophic level , which reflects a low to moderate presence of algae in the water.
The water transparency , measured at approximately 5 meters, is in the oligo-mesotrophic zone, confirming that the lake water remains relatively clear .
Overall, these results demonstrate that Lake Achigan maintains good water quality .
However, it remains important to continue efforts to protect the watershed in order to preserve this balance and limit the input of nutrients that could accelerate the aging of the lake.
