ACTIONS & PROJECTS

Taking Concrete Action for Lake Achigan

The Lake Achigan Protection Association (APLA) is implementing concrete actions to ensure the long-term protection of Lake Achigan in Saint-Hippolyte, in the Laurentians.

Our approach is based on prevention, awareness, collaboration with the municipality, and the involvement of lakeside residents.

Monitoring and Protecting Water Quality

The water quality of Lake Achigan is one of our top priorities. Rigorous monitoring allows us to identify issues and act quickly to preserve the lake's balance.

Our actions include:

  • Participation in environmental monitoring programs with the RSVL, the CRE Laurentides, and the University of Montreal;

  • Analysis and dissemination of information on the lake's condition;

  • Collaboration with specialized organizations;

  • Raising awareness of issues related to phosphorus and algae;

  • Controlling the number of gulls targeting the lake.

Raising awareness among residents and the community

Protecting a lake in the Laurentians relies on collective commitment.

APLA organizes and supports:

  • Information campaigns on best practices for lakeside management;

  • Educational communications on riparian buffer zones and septic systems;

  • Meetings and assemblies to inform members;

  • Awareness tools adapted to the local context.

Promotion of a code of ethics to guide lake users toward best practices

Collaboration with the Municipality and Regional Partners

Protecting Lake Achigan requires close cooperation with local authorities.

APLA works in collaboration with:

  • The municipality;

  • Regional and provincial environmental organizations;

  • Lake management experts in the Laurentians;

  • This collaboration fosters informed and sustainable decisions.

Current and Future Projects

APLA is actively developing projects to strengthen the lake's protection, including:

  • Riverbank Restoration and Protection Initiatives;

  • Citizen Engagement Programs;

  • Environmental Awareness Activities;

  • Development of Information Tools for Lake Residents.

Our commitment is ongoing and evolves according to the needs of Lake Achigan.

A Sustainable Commitment for Future Generations

Every action undertaken by APLA has a clear objective: to preserve the water quality and ecological health of Lake Achigan for today and for tomorrow.

Together, let's make Lac de l'Achigan a model of environmental protection in the Laurentians and in Quebec.
