HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION
Since 1964, APLA has been working for the ecological preservation of Lac de l'Achigan .
Our mission is to protect the integrity of the lake and its surroundings while fostering an engaged community aware of the importance of this vital ecosystem.
Founded in 1964, the Association for the Protection of Lake Achigan (APLA) began as the League of Lake Achigan Owners, with a clear objective: to improve the water quality of the lake and to defend the interests of the riparian owners with the municipal council of Saint-Hippolyte.
Over the decades, APLA has evolved to become a key player in environmental conservation, community education and sustainable management of natural resources around the lake.
ROLE WITHIN THE MUNICIPALITY
APLA acts as a liaison and partner with the municipality to promote responsible and sustainable management of Lac de l’Achigan.
Consultation and Collaboration
The association participates in discussions with municipal authorities regarding issues related to water quality, land-use planning, riparian buffer zones, and the protection of natural environments. Representation of local residents
APLA relays the concerns of local residents and helps to ensure their voices are heard in discussions concerning regulations, development projects, and environmental policies.
Contribution to Informed Decisions
Based on available scientific information and best practices in lake management in the Laurentians, APLA supports decision-making based on prevention and long-term protection.
Support for Environmental Initiatives
When municipal projects aim to protect the lake—whether through awareness programs, environmental monitoring, or regulatory improvements—APLA acts as a mobilizing partner for the community.
Through its collaborative role and constructive oversight, APLA helps maintain an open and productive dialogue between the municipality and citizens, for the collective benefit of Lac de l’Achigan.
