APLA works to protect the health of Lac de l’Achigan and contribute to the quality of life of its community.

Our role is to inform, raise awareness, monitor, document, represent and mobilize shoreline residents and lake users around issues affecting the lake and its environment.

We Monitor the Health of the Lake

APLA is concerned with the various factors that may affect the health of the lake and its watershed.

Our activities may include:

• water quality and clarity;

• shoreline and riparian buffer protection;

• aquatic vegetation and invasive plants;

• biodiversity and wildlife;

• erosion and stormwater runoff;

• septic systems;

• land development and planning;

• other issues that may affect the health of the lake.

We Represent the Concerns of Shoreline Residents

APLA is a collective voice for people who care about protecting the lake.

When issues fall within our mission, we may:

• communicate the concerns of our members;

• take a position;

• participate in discussions and consultations;

• engage with elected officials and municipal staff;

• collaborate with relevant organizations and partners;

• monitor the progress of matters that may affect the lake.

 

We Collaborate

Protecting the lake is not the responsibility of a single organization.

APLA therefore works with the various stakeholders involved in the health of the lake and its watershed: citizens, the Municipality, environmental organizations, other lake associations, experts and government authorities.

This collaborative approach has been part of APLA’s direction for several years. The strategic plan specifically calls for a proactive partnership with the Municipality, participation in collaborative groups and ongoing monitoring of environmental best practices.
